My Process
Medium
When I find an image that inspires me, I replicate the outline of the image and transfer it to my art paper of choice, often Bristol or Colored Pencil specialty papers depending on the texture I desire. My Greek tiles are painted using goauche acrylics and sealed with a finish coat.

Color & Contrast
With careful consideration, I spend as much time as needed to select just the right colors I’ll be using for each new piece. The colors must complement each other and work well together. Sarah Renae Clark’s coloring cubes have been a godsend. Color combinations were, in the past, reasons to not paint using graphite or pen and ink instead. Shading breathes life into each piece, especially the florals. For the background, I often use black as I find it makes the focal point of the piece pop! Additionally, inverting the color in some of my art produces amazing transitions from black to white, red to green, blue to orange, etc. They are ‘happy accidents’ I’ve discovered when finding new looks and fresh perspectives for the same artwork.

Production
I work small and quickly so I am able to create more work in a shorter period of time giving me the chance to find the newest exciting image to develop into a finished piece of art. Satisfied with the final result, I have my work professionally photographed and add additional detail that adds another dimension to the original artwork. Upon completion, I choose a name for the piece and find the symbolism behind that name. After touching up the black background to maximum ‘blackness’, I setup my file to email off to the printing company. So exciting to pick up the final results.

I’m finding out how exciting it is to share with others.
